It is not uncommon for new queens to copulate and become impregnated by humans and other sentient races other than their own. Queens are very picky about their sires and will choose to forego a male space mermaid if she doesn't find a suitable mate. Because of this space mermaid hives are highly diverse genetically. While "pure" kingdoms exist mixed race hives offer a plethora of evolutionary advantages.
Many human hybrids are afforded legs do to their mother's human sire. Because of this, human hybrid queens may be able to assimilate and populate a human dominant system/planet without being easily detected. She can become a "civilized queen". (*civilized queen- a space mermaid who has assimilated into any other sentient races planet)
Yet stigmas towards space mermaids are rampant throughout the galaxies, do to their dangerous/ animilistic nature, so it is not uncommon for hybrids to forego a "civilized" life. For those who do become civilized their incorporation into society is usually secret; running minnie kingdoms within the regions established governments/kingdoms.
This microcosm can become anything from businesses to brothels, using their offspring as "employees".
Some hives become so successful that they are industry powerhouses.
Here is Non-civilized human hybrid daughter. She is a "Port drone." Port drones are littered throughout Space Mrd territories. Their sole purpose is to hold oxygen and replenish scouts oxygen supply. The large hole in her crown has two vents for scouts to insert their siphons.
